Two men are in custody following a deadly shooting at a north Houston apartment complex Thursday night, according to police.
The shooting happened around 9 p.m. Police say the victim was sitting inside his vehicle when two men approached him and began talking to him.
At some point, the victim tried to drive away. One of the men then opened fire, striking the victim.
The victim crashed his vehicle into a tree. When officers arrived, they found him suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Several people who were at the apartment complex when the shooting happened said they heard between seven and eight gunshots.
Investigators used surveillance video to help piece together what happened and identify the suspects.
After the shooting, officers believed the two men may have been inside an apartment at a nearby complex. Police set up a perimeter while a specialized patrol support team called for the suspects to come outside.
Both men eventually came out, and police took them into custody.
Police also safely brought a woman and a 5-year-old child out of the apartment. Neither was injured.
Homicide investigators are now handling the case. Police have not released the identities of the victim or the two men taken into custody.
The investigation remains ongoing.
