Suspicious Package at SF's Mission Police Station Prompts Valencia Street Closure

A block of Valencia Street was closed to traffic Thursday night while police investigated a suspicious package at the Mission Police Station, leaving an autonomous vehicle stuck behind the yellow tape.

The incident began around 8:10 pm Thursday, when a San Francisco Police Department officer spotted the package at the Mission District station.

As KTVU reports, police closed Valencia Street between 17th and 18th streets while additional units were deployed to investigate.

Residents were advised via AlertSF around 8:20 pm to avoid the area. During the closure, an autonomous vehicle, which appears to be a Waymo in KTVU's photos, was visible behind the yellow police tape as officers kept the street clear.

According to KTVU, the SFPD gave the all-clear around 9:20 pm, allowing traffic and pedestrians to return to Valencia Street. The package was deemed safe, though authorities did not disclose what it contained.
