A person was hurt and a woman was arrested after she caused a crash in Trainer Borough while driving under the influence of alcohol with her 5-year-old child in her vehicle, police claim.

According to police, Nicole Simmons, 38, of Brookhaven, was arrested after a crash that happened on Tuesday in the area of West 2nd and Wilcox streets in Trainer Borough, Delaware County.

As a result of this three-vehicle crash, one person was hospitalized.

However, officials did not immediately detail the extent of this person’s injuries, nor did they say how the crash occurred.

Following the crash, officers claimed they smelled a “strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from Simmons” and her vehicle, a 2019 GMC Arcadia that had her five-year-old child in a rear passenger seat.

Police administered a field sobriety test and determined Simmons was impaired and incapable of operating a motor vehicle, officials said.

She was taken into custody and, officials claim, she refused to chemical testing of her blood at the time of her arrest.

Simmons has been charged with aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, reckless endangerment, endangering the welfare of children, DUI and related offenses.

She is currently being held in police custody after being unable to pay $80,000 in bail.

Simmons has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Nov. 10, 2026.
