Oak Island’s Veterans Park gets makeover from local Lowe’s employees

OAK ISLAND, N.C. (WECT) – Employees from the Southport and Shallotte Lowe’s Home Improvement stores volunteered their time at Veterans Park in Oak Island Friday.

The volunteers pressure washed, planted trees and shrubs, built retaining walls and put up new flags. The park will have a new look by sunset.

Many of the volunteers are veterans, including Lowe’s Randy Modlin. Modlin said one volunteer stood out.

“We actually had one gentleman here today named Andy. He’s a veteran, got a lot of disabilities and stuff like that, but he came out and gave two hours of his time today,” Modlin said.

The project aims to remind veterans across the community that they have not been forgotten.
