LOGANSPORT, Ind. — A Logansport High School student is being recognized for her artwork celebrating Hispanic heritage and community pride.
Leyla Zarate was selected as the winner of McDonald’s-supported program “A Celebration of Culture & Community.” She received a $1,000 award for her winning design.
The program invited Logansport High School art students to create original artwork inspired by their Hispanic heritage and connection to the community.
The winning design was selected by a panel of judges and transformed into a 5-foot-by-5-foot mural at the McDonald’s at 3201 E. Market St. in Logansport.
McDonald’s also presented the Logansport High School art department with a $500 grant to support future creative opportunities for students.
The program was supported locally by McDonald’s Owner/Operators Dean, Chad and Nicole DiMichele.
“This mural is a great example of what happens when young people are given an opportunity to share their culture, creativity and perspective with the community,” said Dean DiMichele. “We’re proud to celebrate Leyla’s talent and give her artwork a place where our customers, neighbors and other students can enjoy it.”
The mural was unveiled during a ceremony Thursday attended by students, school representatives and local McDonald’s officials.
The program was organized in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month and highlights the culture and contributions of Logansport’s Hispanic community.
