The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Division is investigating the death of a 23-year-old man as a death in custody following a chase in northwest Harris County, authorities said.
Pct. 4 Constable’s Office deputies responded to a family disturbance at a home on Carols Way Drive around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. The man was outside when they arrived and ran. Deputies pursued him for about a block, where he pulled out a handgun and shot himself, according to investigators. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The sheriff’s office Homicide Division is investigating this case as a death in custody due to the circumstances,” HCSO Sgt. Jason Brown said at the scene.
Investigators said there is no indication that deputies fired their weapons. The completed investigation will be submitted to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office for review.
